HISTORICAL MARKER PROGRAMS IN HARRIS COUNTY
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) and the Harris County Historical Commission (HCHC) encourage citizens to recognize historic people, places, and events through placement of official Historical Markers. Harris County now offers applicants a choice of two marker programs:
(1) The THC-sponsored "Official Texas Historical Marker"
(2) The HCHC-sponsored "Harris County Historical Marker"
Please review the "Marker Program Summary" for a comparison of the two programs.
Please note that July 31, 2013 is the deadline to submit marker application narratives to HCHC for the THC Class of 2014 markers (to be delivered mid-2014 to mid-2015). Applications received after that date may be considered for the Class of 2015. Applications for Harris County Historical Markers may be submitted at any time; there are no deadlines.
